Hot

Biggie is walking!  Today his record was fourteen steps all by himself.  Wow.

The toilet paper has been moved to the medicine cabinet.  Biggie has taken to pulling it off and eating it.  Its the poor man's cotton candy.

Its still crazy hot here.  The forecasts call for a break midweek.  Since we only have single-room air conditioners and can only use one at a time, we have all been very on top of each other this weekend.  Matthew did take over on Saturday so I could have at least half a day all to myself.  I went to get a strawberry lemonade and read a magazine it was lovely.

My downstairs neighbor told me her apartment was broken into on Monday.  "Oh no!  Did they get anything?"  I said, like a dummy.  She said she didn't know how the burgler got in.  I saw that her screen was broken over a porch to the basement apartment.  It would be easy enough to climb up there and open the window if it was unlocked. I am sad for her but I still feel fairly secure up here on the third floor.

We have decided to keep Biggie home from church for the time being.  He's just so active right now with his new-found powers.  And he's figured out how to crawl underneath the pew now.  Matthew will listen to the radio mass at 9:30 then watch Biggie for me while I go to the 10:30.  Today they were giving out free books for our summer reading assignment.  The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything by James Martin, SJ.  I enjoyed My Life With the Saints by him.  My priest is very big on reading.  Our bulletin always includes a pages-long article on things he thinks we should know about.  Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed by it all.  Those Jesuits!

I just had my first visit from the Jehovah's Witnesses in my stay at home life.  I sent them to Wheeler House down the street, where the Jesuits live.  Fr. Willie should have fun talking to them.

My sister (and goddaughter) had her first communion yesterday. She said it was wonderful. She didn't do it with the rest of her friends because she wanted to wait until Dad came home. I went to the Catholic Corner in Towson and got her a book of saints and a necklace.  She said she had no idea there were so many saints.  I think the book had about 20, so she's in for a surprise.

The proprietor there told me to pray to St. Gerard, as he's the patron saint of childbirth. I looked him up, and it turns out that he became associated with pregnancy because a pregnant woman accused him of being the father of her child.  She later recanted.  It would seem to me that he would be more fitting to be the patron saint of men fervently hoping the baby isn't his!
