A year ago today, Matthew decided to take the day off work after I had my first contraction the night before.  I told him that the erratic contractions like mine could go on for weeks, but he said he'd feel better staying close to me.  He told me that we should do everything I liked.  So we went to see The Proposal, then went out for ice cream.  After dinner, we played Scrabble.  Matthew never plays Scrabble with me.  He believes words like qi and zyzzyva aren't "real".

Its a lovely memory, our last day together as a "childfree" couple.  I'm glad we did it.

Then at about nine, I went to bed, and almost immediately got back up.  I had been ignoring the contractions all day, but as soon as I tried to go to sleep they got too strong to ignore.  I took a bath, walked around, and drank lots of fluids, but they still didn't stop.  Matthew followed me around with a stopwatch.

I didn't want to wake up our doula before it was necessary, but at about 3 a.m., I called Holly and told her to meet us at the hospital.
