Ever since the warm weather came and Greg has been wearing shorts and short sleeves, strange women have been coming up and squeezing my baby. I think its happened four or five times. I'm always to befuddled to say anything at the time. It happens so fast. Usually at the checkout line, they start admiring my baby, then reach into his stroller and give his arm or leg a squeeze. One time the woman was speaking to me in a foreign language, so I don't know if she would have understood anyway.

Maybe they think he's a can of biscuit dough? Now, I squeeze Greg daily, because he is so squishy, but that doesn't mean other people can. They never ask permission, either, probably because "May I squeeze your baby?" sounds like a bad request.

At my doctor's appointment, one of the nurses stopped to admire him, then circled back and was going to squeeze. Brendan jumped in front of Greg and said "No! My baby, mine!" and scared her off. Thank you Brendan!

All I've wanted to do in the last few days is sit around being sad for no reason and eat junk food.  Its quite boring.

I did put pants on today, so that was better than yesterday, and went to the trivia semifinals for my team.  I put Greg in the Ergo and took him with me, because he was just miserable when I left him home last time.  He was so good!  I only missed two questions when I took him out to the car for a break and he spent most of the 3 hours either sleeping or staring at the red tinsel on the ceiling.  My team, BAM (because everyone on it has been on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) tied for fourth, so we just made it to the finals next year.  Hopefully we can do better next week.  The final question (which we got wrong) was "What meat is eaten the most in the world by pounds consumed?  Chicken, beef, or pork?"

Brendan has finally noticed he has a baby brother.  I wish he still was ignoring his existence, because now he wants to hug him and hold him all the time.  The only problem is he likes to hug him around the neck.

Photobucket

Then yesterday I had Gregory on the couch next to me. I look away for a second and when I look back Brendan is holding Greg's nose shut. He got sent to his room for the first time for that one (for two minutes). Now I have the baby trying to kill himself as all babies do, plus his brother trying to help him along. How does anyone make it to adulthood?

*answer to the trivia question: Its pork, by a lot. We said chicken, because we figured chickens are everywhere and no major religions forbid eating them. But I guess the fatness of hogs makes up for that.

The sweetest gift a mother could ask for, two babies napping at the same time.

Photobucket

My Dad came yesterday. He's staying for two weeks, and Matthew is still on vacation this upcoming week, so I'll have a lot of help for a little while.

I can't get over how light Gregory is. I know he's big for a newborn, but compared to carrying Brendan around its like holding a bag of cotton candy.

Today was the National Aquarium in Baltimore's 30th birthday, so they had a $5 admission for people turning 30 this year. Usually admission is 25 bucks, so it was a great deal. I love when they have a deal made specially for me!

The first place we went was the cafe, where they had cupcakes for the first 1,000 visitors. Brendan ate half his, then got a gleam in his eye and started yelling and running around like a crazy person in the cafe.

Photobucket
Right before the craziness.

Then we went to the gift shop, where Brendan excitedly pointed out all the balls.

We stopped at the big tubes that blog bubbles, where he ran around with other toddlers.

Photobucket

Then we found the children's area, where he played in the sand finding shells and pushed all the puppets out of the theater.

The only thing he did NOT like was the actual fish. After spending two hours there, I was determined to drag him over to the exhibits. He liked the Ray pool, but he kept trying to jump in, even from the third floor. Everything else I tried to show him he just said "No, No."

I guess we'll wait until next summer before we go back. At least it was only $5.

The Maryland Zoo opened early for members on Wednesday in conjunction with Chick-Fil-A. We got to come at 9:30 a.m. and get a free chicken biscuit. I was hoping Biggie wouldn't eat his so I could have two, but wouldn't you know he decided to eat breakfast that day.

My Jeopardy check came on Saturday!  We found a branch of our bank open on Sunday and deposited it right away.  Now I'm just waiting for it to show up online.  Don't want to lose that check in the system!

Now we might be able to move up our close date.  We had our home inspection and nothing major was wrong, just a few things that need fixing that I hope the sellers can fix.

Biggie went to Isla's 2nd birthday party on Saturday, which was held at his new favorite place, Rollie Pollie's.  Have you ever seen a look of such pure joy on a kid's face?

Photobucket

I so wanted to swing on the rope and drop into the foam blocks, but its probably not good for an almost six-months pregnant lady to do. I liked tossing Biggie in,
though.
Matthew looked like he was having fun too.

At the zoo

We went to the zoo on Monday.  Not today, it was 97 degrees out.

Its amazing how in one year Biggie went from this:

To this!

I really wanted to go now because there is a baby Coquerel's Sifaka, and I wanted to see him before he got too old. I caught Otto in fine form, and nursing! I took a video because it was hard to see what he was doing from a picture.

Oh my, I don't know about you, but I think when a lemur is old enough to hang by his feet from a branch, he is far too old to be nursing.  The mother is obviously doing it for her own personal gratification.

Biggie turned 21 months yesterday.

Photobucket

He is into stacking things on top of things now.  He did this all by himself!  I just helped by taking away the little cylinder blocks that kept toppling his tower.  He also can say "ball" and "uh-oh" now.  Its so cute when he says uh-oh that I try to get him to say it all the time.

We went to see our friends who have a 7-month-old baby last week.  Biggie was entranced.  He kept reaching up begging to hold him, then when I was holding Billy he shook his hand then gently kissed his forehead.  It gives me hope for the future.  He really is a gentle soul.  Even when other kids knock him down he never pushes back, he just gets up and keeps playing.

Since he loves Elmo's World so much, I bought him a tape at Goodwill last week that was all Elmo's World.  We have watched it approximately 30 times since then.  He's even figured out how to push the play button on our VCR by himself.

I had a lovely Christmas, the first time my whole family was together since before Brendan was born.  But I think my happiest memory of this Christmas happened in a Burger King on the way home.

We left our hotel at 4:30 a.m., planning on tricking Biggie by getting at least a few hours of driving in before he woke up.  When he awoke, we stopped to get breakfast.  He loved the mini hashbrowns.  They were playing oldies on the speakers.  He started babbling along with the songs.

"You know," Matthew said.  "I always thought musicals were so unrealistic before I met you.  But you really do sing when you're happy and dance when you're in love."

"And I'm going to pass it on to our son, too," I said.

Then Biggie grabbed my hand and pulled me out of my chair.  Then he grabbed Matthew and had him stand up too.  Then he began his "happy dance" where he stomps his feet up and down and twirls around.  Matthew and I happy danced along with him.  Biggie had the biggest smile on his face.

Happy Holidays to all of you!

I love entering sweepstakes, especially the instant win kind..  They're free and  I might just win something!  Today I won a $25 gas card from Citgo, last week I won a $55 debit card and four boxes of Toaster Strudel, and last month I won a 9 lb. box of stuff from Hershey's.  I seem to be on a lucky streak.

I have to think of 90 things to do with my son until it gets warm enough to go outside again.  I know, just bundle him up and take him out anyway, but he won't wear a hat.  I just got a membership to the children's museum (Port Discovery) here, so that will be a good place.  They're expanding the baby/toddler area right now, which means its closed, but it should be opened again in January.

Then there are storytimes, which don't hold much interest for Biggie as I still haven't gotten him interested in books.  Do you know how shameful that is to me?  And my husband's nickname is "Books"!  But every time I try to read to him, he shuts the book, climbs out of my lap, and puts it back on the shelf.

The couple downstairs moved out.  Yay!  No more bikes in the stairway!  No more worrying about Biggie pounding on the floor, at least until new tenants move in.  They left a complete mess in the alleyway, just throwing all their rubbish everywhere instead of putting it in garbage bags.  I know there's always more stuff than you think in a move-out, but how about buying more bags instead of leaving a big FU to your former neighbors?

So much for being confident at the playground in front of the other mothers.  Two days ago I was at the tot lot with Biggie.  There was a new toy there, a car with a big rope attached.  So I put him in it and started pulling him around.  I started going faster because he liked it, looking at him as I ran backward, and fell over a playhouse, completely flattening it.  I was able to snap it back together to almost as good as new condition, but I have a huge bruise on my butt now.

I happened to pick up a free copy of Maryland Family magazine at the library, because I sent Biggie's picture in August when they were asking for pumpkin patch pictures, and I never heard back from them.  Lo and behold, they did publish it!
